heater alternatives?

What options are there to replace the stock heater and heater core? My heater core has a leak, so I've disconnected it. Before getting it repaired, I figured I'd look at other options. I dont have any current plans for a/c.
Is there a heater core that installs under the dash so you don't have the ugly heater core box in the engine compartment?

As good as the stock heaters work I'd just stick a new core in it. As I recall they don't cost much.

Yup... I got a heater core for my truck from the local auto supply store. $35 bucks.

There are several aftermarket heaters to choose from:Summit, Vintage air, Flex-a-lite Mojave Heater, etc etc.. and they fit under the dash without the huge box on the firewall. You will have to fill the old openings in the firewall and cut the holes for the heater hoses. starting around $150

my mom likes to tell the story of having to light candles in her old mini cooper to defrost the windows.
