What size tires?

Well it would appear the cold weather and dry rotted tires has taken its toll on my truck since I found a flat this morning when I went to the garage. I tried to refill it with air but it just leaks back out. Currently the truck has 31 x 10.50 x 15 on 15x8 rally wheels. My LONG term plans are to lower the truck mostly likely with a 4/6 static drop, but with a baby on the way I don't know how far into the future that will be.

My question is, what tire size would you recommend? In a perfect world I would like a tire size that will work with it at factory ride height now and later down the road with a drop.

I can say that right now I am looking at tires in the 28-29" range, will that work with a 4/6?

Re: What size tires?

What about a 235/75/15? Its a taller tire so I think it will look good at its current height or lowered, but I am not sure if it will fit with a 4" drop in the front.

Re: What size tires?

Do you still plan to run the same size just with a different tread design or are you going to change size as well?

Re: What size tires?

Hope this helps. 235/75R15's are 28.86 inches high and 9.25 inches wide. 255 tires are 10.03 inches wide and the 60 series are 27.02 inches high and the 70 series are 29.04 inches high and that is what is my stock height truck in the attached pic. Personally I think with the 4/6 drop you are contemplating a set of 255/60's would work for now and with the drop. The attached threrad is currently running on the message boards and should give you some ideas.

Thanks for the input, I spent hours yesterday searching and looking at pictures (I believe I looked at that thread as well) and I have pretty much narrowed it down to a 28-29" tall tire and around 9" wide. I am trying to find something used local but there isn't much so I may have to bite the bullet and get a new set. I like the 235/75/15, I think the 255/70 will be too tall with the drop and the 255/60 will be too short. I found other trucks with the same wheels and drop I am looking for running a 235/75, I may drop to a 235/70 to be safe since that is ~28".

I just think the 255's with the slight extra width look so much better on our trucks. 235/70's as you say should work and be safe and BFG Radial T/A's are available in that size and are reasonably priced.

Thats a pretty good point, the extra width does help in the looks area. I could do a staggered set with 235's up front and 255's in the rear. I did see some 255 in front and 275 in the rear, my only concern is when I start to lower it. If I stick with the rally wheels I plan to go to with a 7" wheel up front to provide more clearance.

Re: What size tires?

I have 245/60/15's on the front and 295/50/15's on the rear, but 275's are great on the rear

Re: What size tires?

These are the size combos I have come up with:

28" tires:

-235/70 all 4
-235/70 front, 275/60 rear

29" tires:
-235/75 all 4
-235/75 front, 255/70 rear
-255/70 all 4

I like the idea of skinnier tires up front so I know that it will work when it comes time to lower it. Anyone else like one of these combos better for a 4/6 drop?

Re: What size tires?

I know every truck is different, but does anyone have an estimate on what the max tire height is on the front with a 4" drop?
