1995 Silverado 1/2 350->1995 454 TBI swap

Hello everyone, I'd like to thank everyone in advanced for any help they can give,

I'm looking on buying a used 1995 454 TBI for my 95 Silverado which has a 350 with 290,000 miles. The 454 is complete, serpentine system manifolds, TBI intake and heads, wiring harness and computer, pretty much plug and play. Here are my questions however before I go ahead and buy the motor.

Are the frame mounts going to be the same for the 454?

I read the 4L60E and the 4L80E have the same bolt pattern, so they should bolt up fine; but will the PCM need to be flashed and reprogrammed for the 4L60E anyways?

1/2 Tie-rod front end suspension enough for the heavy 454?

Any other issues that I've missed that I should think about?

How many tires will I burn off!

Thanks

-Paul

that 454 will shred that 4L60 if its stock. I would recommend a 4L80 swap

The 4L60E is not stock, has been rebuilt (just about 10k miles ago) with a new torque converter, bell housing, and a shift kit.

Do you by the way know if I would need to reprog the pcm to tell the computer its running off a 4L60 and not a 80?

Yes, a reprogram will be necessary. The 80 uses different gear ratios than the 60 and will need to hang in 1st gear longer than the 60. Shifting is all electronic and needs to match the trans.

I also hate to break this to you, but the 7.4 will eat up your 4L60E if abused. A basic rebuild and shift kit isn't going to cut it. The internals should be beefed up to handle the additional torque.

Yeah I figured that. I'm not sure if the transmission was beefed when it was rebuilt; I know the guy that rebuilt it def made it much better then it ever was stock, but I cant say for certain.

And Thanks for the info as well bwood; I haven't purchased it yet because I wanted this feedback before I made any decisions

It shouldn't be that hard to find a good 4L80E to put behind the 7.4. Maybe a swap for your existing powertrain? I believe you will also need the slip yolk for the 80 as its bigger than the 60.

Yes the frame mounts will work I just put 454 into my 1995 gmc long box reg/cab 2wd. The 454 jroped in with out any problems bolted up to the 4l60E but Im going to trade it out later for 4l80E just more so need to get it running so it can get the truck painted the only thing is the exhaust is a litlle dif but what ever.
