Re: speedometer & gas gauge problem
This is an odd problem because the speedo is mechanical and the gas gauge is electrical. The only thing I can think of is you speedo cable might be bad and shakeing the whole cluster housing. If you have a later model(88-91?) with electric speedo maybe its a ground issue.

Re: speedometer & gas gauge problem
If mechanical it could be the gauge or the cable may need to be lubed.....
I had the same problem with the gas gauge...I replaced my sending unit but since my bed is off the truck have yet to be able to test it.....The old one sure was rusted in well though

Re: speedometer & gas gauge problem
A gas gauge needle does move alot because of the float in the tank that moves. (even when stopped the gas can slosh around). Ground not working or only working sometimes? That would probably move the needle on a flat surface since it relies on resistance.

Re: speedometer & gas gauge problem
make sure the cable is locked in for the speedo
make sure the gas gauge power gets it's own ground, they all use one, worked for me
