Porterbuilt Rear

I have read through a lot of posts here... awaiting forum access at porterbuilt itself but wanted to throw it out here before giving them a call - anyone here running their stage 2 rear?

I have a pretty solid 64 step side that I would like to lower without having to cut up fender wells or any other other major body mods - trying to stay close to stock body wise - will this setup get me too low? Is anyone running this on a stepside that cares to share some pics? Thanks in advance.

The stage 2 kit is basically what I had in my '69 minus the sweet shock mount. I ran shock relocators, but this kit wasn't around then. I used the CPP panhard bar. This kit is cleaner and wicked easy.

Yeah it looks like a great set up - only concerns at this point is whether it's too low. Figure I'll give the guys over there a ring later this week and see if they can shed some light.

The stage 1 kit uses a cup in the rear so you don't have to notch the frame. If the stage 2 is too low, the stage 1 is great, also.

Too low will not be a issue, all one has to do is add a spacer between the trailing arm and the bag and you have a taller bag......you want to run the bag in the middle of its range or travel so if it is too low just air it up more or add the spacer. Kieth

you could also just add spacer blocks on the trailing arm and then mount the bags, I am very close to touching the bed now with bags aired out. Kieth

Get on the website and asked some questions. Nate will give you a call if you leave a number and answer all your questions. I put the stage 2 on my build and it was easy to install. I'm still building the truck and can't wait to get it going!

Shooters_7 that's a great looking build you have going on there... that is going to be one sick looking machine. What are you running for a rear in that thing and is that porter front member with the rack and pinion?

Noisy - definitely have the addiction just worried with this being the first thing new thing I've bagged since I been married (lol) - that I'll get in over my head - looks like you have to cut up some inner fender wells and such when you get that low right?

Thanks for the pictures Kieth - that helps - did you powdercoat the frame in your 2nd picture or did you paint that yourself?

I installed a stage 2 kit on the rear of my 63 last winter. Very nice. The notch is about 3" inches tall. but my pumpkin hits the bottom of the bed when the bags are aired out so I have to install about 1.5" bumpstops to prevent that. So in my case the notch will be about an inch and a half to two inches. make sense?

Lol...you must like to have a lot of ups and downs in your life! Yes, if you get real low you will have to cut the fenders. Some people modify the inner fender wells along with modified hood hinges. PB makes some very nice hood hinges. And before I forget, steering clearance issues with your drivers side UCA will have to be addressed.

In the beginning I knew where I wanted her to be and I got there with the help of the board members (this is a great forum and so far everyone has given me great advise and ideas). The problem is once I got there, I wanted to get lower. This is the addiction! I started off with dropped springs and that wasn't low enough for my taste. I then went to 3 inch dropped spindles, sectioned my xmember 1.5 and bagged. I was happy with the height for about one day and then decided I wanted her to be lower. Now, I'm going to z'frame 2.5 -3 because I can't fit the PB dropped member assembly into my budget and this is a new can of worms!

It easy to get in over your head. If you don't want to, run Wayno run! lol!

We just painted it ourselves, with por15 , pictures always look better than how it looks in person.

Full Porterbuilt suspension, figured I'd do everything now. The rear is a stock GM 12 bolt that came with the truck. Just rebuilt it and put a Moser diff cover on that I bought through Jegs. The only thing that will drive you crazy is grinding rivets to remove the old stuff. Get a friend with a plasma cutter if possible! lol

Not at all. You will be very pleased with the PB setup! I sure wish I could go that route and perhaps someday I will but I figure I can purchase about four (4) 63-66' C10's for the price of one PB dropped member complete assembly. Then I can fix up one of the four trucks and flip it to purchase my PB dropped member. Then flip another truck for the PB rear. Then I'll have two C10's left over with one having all PB components.
