Long Block question

Hi,

I'm new to the board and was wondering if someone could tell me the difference between long and short blocks.

I may be putting something new/rebuilt in my 69 Chevy C20. It has a large camper on back.

Are there any threads that talk about engine selection? I saw one, are there any others?

Do you guys have any suggestions on what kind and size of engine to put in there? Assume cost is no object (it is, but I'd like to hear about all the options. I can probably spend 3-4,000 on it)

Thanks

A short block is the block with crankshaft, rods, pistons and cam installed. A long block is a short block with heads on it.

I'd recomend either a big block or at the least, a stroker small block. You need torque. Forget horsepower.

First, welcome to the board. To answer your question, basically a long block includes heads and a short block does not include heades. There may be some additonal things added or deleted depending on who you buy it from. Both should include things outside the block such as: timing components and oil pump. Some long blocks will include water pump but not all of them do. I can't give you any prices or suggestion on what to run as it has been many years since I have sold a long or short block. Are you thinking in terms of big block or small block for your new engine choice?
