Tires on a 4x4
I'm replacing the tires on my '89 K2500 hd silverado. It currently has 245 75 r16, and I'm thinking of going to 285 75 r16 or 33x12.5x16. Anybody done this without a lift ... any issues?

Yes. I did 285 75 16 on my 97 and 98 k1500 and currently on my 99k2500. The only issue you will have if any is the tire hitting the valance. Are are you using factory wheels

Re: Tires on a 4x4
no valance is the plastic thing that's mounted under the bumper IF it's still there.
I run 285's on mine NO lift, and it's 1/2 ton 3/4 tons sit higher usually. if you put them on and they rub crank up your torsion bars some. I know a guy who has a 2500 I think it is and runs 315/75-16's and it's aftermarket wheels. He had no lift only cranked his bars up some.

Re: Tires on a 4x4
I just remove that valance piece. Mine re 3500s with torsion bars cranked. The one w/utility bed had 8" wheels. 315/75s would never work on these trucks. My 285s will very rub, rarely:

Re: Tires on a 4x4
315's or 35's do work on these trucks seen it done over and over, 1500's 2500's even 3500's....
http://www.gmt400.com/forum/showthre...=badazzbulldog I've seen 36's and 37's on some too, but I'm almost positive they fully cranked AND had to trim.

Re: Tires on a 4x4
My truck has no valance, don't think it ever did, but maybe the PO had taken it off. I've had two '89s, and neither had a valance, I know my old beater never had one as I got it of a 3 yr lease and it didn't have one when I got it with less than 40k on it.
In any case, a little rub will be ok as I don't really use this (newer to me) truck foe severe duty or off roading. I like the look of the bigger tires, and being an HD, it has a Turbo 400 with no overdrive and fairly low gearing in the rear axle (Dana 60 I think). It would also be nice to have the bigger tires for the rare occasion where I do need to go on bush roads. Tks |
