rear tire/rim width

Hello Friends, how wide a tire/rim can I put on my 76 c10 shortbed. I want to put as wide a tire as possible without having to alter the rear axle. I do not mind having to put in new wheel tubs to accomidate a larger set of wheels because I have got to put a new bottom in the bed anyways. Thanks for all the help.

Re: rear tire/rim width

without having to get new tubs for your truck you can run up to a 15-20x10 wide rim if you go any bigger you will have to tube it more. being that I dont know your rim size thats why I used the 15-20

I havent done it myself but Ive been told that you can put a 15x12, 7.5in backspace, and a 29-15.5x15 tire. Its a very tight fit with no rear/suspension mods but you will need to widen the wheel tubs and maybe trim fender lip slightly.

I would love to see photo's if it indeed true that you can do that, not that I'm going to but I think it would be interesting to see some pictures if it has been done successfully.

Re: rear tire/rim width

I am running a 20" x 10" with a 285/50/20 on my rear with no mods. I have enough room to fit one finger between the tire and the tub.

Re: rear tire/rim width

On my 75, I'm running Cragar street lights, 10" with Mickey Thompson 29 x 12.5 x 15 sportsman on the rear. I have a 4" drop in the rear, the fender lip is close but so far i've never shredded a tire............
