84 502ci fun toy!
Well I dont think I ever posted pics of this truck but figured I would share. This is my fathers truck for now but soon will be mine. The motor I bought last spring for 600.00 complete 502ci marine motor. Basically was a 502ho.
Took to my engine builder and begun the work. Everything was tore down, cleaned and machined. This had a 4 bolt main all forged internals. So we cleaned everything up and put it all back together with some real nice parts. all stock size bottom end with all forged internals balanced and blueprinted. Used Molley file fit rings, ace race bearings and melling select high volume and pressure oil pump. The heads are doug herbert 320cc with 2.25/1/90 stainless manley valves. The heads were cleaned up with some mild port work done. The thump stick is a doug herbert full roller 260/270 with 685/685 lift 106ls. We used harland sharp rollers and doug herbert stud girdles. power plus intake with a 920 holley. Full msd ignition to light the fire! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c2...F/IMG_0364.jpg ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() There is still a lot to do to this truck. The exhaust sucks as it has small primary headers with 2.5'' collectors. This will be changed to 2'' primarys with 3.5'' collectors and exhaust to set of race mufflers. The rearend is a 10bolt with 3.42 posi which i plan on getting 3.73s and all new axles etc with caltracs. The trans is a th400 that will be getting built. It does have a 3500 stall. Plans are built trans, new headers and exhaust, rearend kit and caltracs, roll cage, maybe a 950 or 1000cfm carb and sticky tires. The motor is built strong enough to handle an easy shot of 300 but I will only run a 125 shot after everything else is done. The power this thing is making is unreal and has so so so much more in it. I think once I get everything done I am guessing around a 7.50 1/8th mile and in the 6's with spray! |

I frickin LOVE BB's!!!! My 496/82 project is on "financial" hold right now.... But I hope to have it on the road by May... You've got a nice set up here, however I would stick with the 3.42 gear and run a 28 or 29" tire... I think with your power and torque the difference between the gears would be minimal. Love the short box, but please get rid of all that air conditioner stuff under the hood!!! LOL!!!

Yeah I am staying with the 3.42's cause I know this is going to be on the road a lot more than the track. Yeah I placed a ad in wanted for a non a/c heater box.

Sweet! Has the truck seen a track before? Any idea what kind of power you are making?

Re: 84 502ci fun toy!
This truck has not seen the track yet as for power we are guessing in the mid 600 range maybe more. The truck in my avatar was a 468bb with th350 and 3.73 gears and this 502 will eat it for lunch. the best time i got from the blue truck was a 8.16 1/8th mile.

You'll love extra cubes. I built a 496 last year and love it. Its my first bbc and I'm going to build an sbc too quick anymore. I've got a solid flat tappet in mine with a set of 781 heads that have some mild port work done and amazingly srtock valve sizes. It has an old school Torker II that is gasket matched. I'm using a 950hp on it too. Hooker Super Comps and 3" exhaust. With 373's and a 3500 converter, I ran an 11.82 and it spun the tires when I hit 2nd gear. I love the torque this thing has and wouldn't change my set up. This thing revs like crazy too. I've bounced it off the rev limiter @ 7000 twice.
