lower ball joint install question - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am putting the correct ball joint on finally (see picture)

And noticed that there is a lip on the ball joint on the right that does not seem to be there on the left one.

I am getting ready to press it in with a rented press and was wondering what to do about that. If I just mash it in won't that get cut off? It does not seem to come off just by trying to push it up the bolt.

Take the rubber boot off.
Press the ball joint up thru the a-arm.
Install boot.
Install spindle.

How easily did your boot go on? I can't seem to get it to go around all sides of the ball joint!

I'm using moog parts... Tips?

The moog boots can be a total PITA but they dont fall off like some other brands. A socket or a piece of pipe the size of the lip on the boot will work with a hammer just be careful not to cut the boot. You can also do it with a large flat head screwdriver.
