502 BB or super charged SB?

anybody running a 144 or 172 supercharger on a small block? do they clear the hood? i want 500 HP. i'm trying to decide between supercharging my SB or going with a 502 BB. i don't see any problems putting in a BB, but would like to hear about anyones experience doing so.

thanks

In the end the price will be about the same. I have a friend that builds performance engines for boats and he offered to build me a small block with a supercharger that would put our BB numbers, but in the end I have decided to just go with the BB. HP is nice, but the torque of the BB is where it is at.

I really don't know sht about sht, but the old phrase "There's no replacement for displacement." has stood strong for a reason. If I were to build a performance unit under the hood, I'd do whatever I could to keep it naturally aspirated....that's just me with a bone stock 350 talking though.

Go with the BB. Just think down the road you could put a super charger on the BB. Now that would be AWSOME@!

Here's mine. Small block crate 300hp, supercharger 40-50%, so in the neighborhood of 450HP. It sure is fun to drive.

No to snowmobiles , and yes it all fits under the hood even with a 5" K&N air filter, That's under a stock hood if you go cowl hood you gain anothe 2.5"

While a blown SB is cool...for the money I'd take a BBC. If it were a vehicle where a BBC was hard to put in, I might reconsider that...but since it's not...

I build motors for a living. The big block is the way to go. In the right configuration it can be as fuel efficent as a small block with out the drawbacks of the small block torque issue. Puls if you ever go to sell your truck it will usually biring more money for it. If you need some specs on a motor combo or prices for parts drop me a message. That goes for all on the board too.

thanks for all advice, but i still can't decide. i've got a little while before the sub's ready for the motor, so i'll continue to drive myself insane thinking about it. wait, i've got it! i'll buy another truck and run a blown SB in one and a BB in the other, yeah that's the solution. Let me go run that idea by my wife........

Not necessarily. I have put down quite a few big blocks with a puny little 3.8 V6 with a wee little turbo.

Go BB.

Let's say you spend 6k on a blown small block and it puts out 500hp. Then you get bored....what then?

But, If you go BB and you have 500hp and get bored, just change the cam or manifold or heads or....if it's low compression, put a blower on it.

You cam make 600hp pretty easy with a N/A 502....thats where I am headed.

Turbo's and Superchargers make virtual displacement by cramming more and air fuel into the cylinder than normally exists in a carb motor.
