This is a very in-depth write up on it! Just don't worry about the parts where they are drilling and tapping holes for connecting a ram. Other that that, it's right-on. There are I believe 24 balls. 12 light and 12 dark. They are just barely discernable from each-other.

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
I did mine but last summer but the ball bearings on mine were all the same size and color. I was missing a couple but couldn't find them anywhere on the net or parts stores. I went ahead and reinstalled them like that and it works without any problems and no more leaks either.
Also, if you know of a place that sells these ball bearings post it here. I have another gearbox I would like to rebuild.

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
you can get the ball bearings thru ClassicParts.com p/n 76-875, it's on page 99 of they're 67-72 vol. 11 catalog as well.

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
Thanks for ball bearing info. $42 seems somewhat steep for them though. I can get a used gearbox locally for around $40. I think that's what I will do.

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
I just watched a video last night on musclecar with the "red sled" project, after the red sled drive they rebuilt a ps box and made it look soooo easy. I will try to link it in a minute..

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
The balls are actually two different sizes as the black balls are spacers for the silver balls when they are new. There is probably no way to tell after it has a lot of miles on it though.

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
Sweet, glad you found your balls Please report back with details of how easy or hard it was and how much beer it took to complete. I have never had one apart and I am a little intimidated by the PS box

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
ok all done.
over all i dont think it was too hard basicly you really just gotta pay attention too how everything comes apart and its oreintation. i kinda broke it down to each peice and made sure it was all clean and carefully removed each seal(in case one of the new ones broke) and replaced with the new ones the hardest thing i thought was trying too get the big rack piston back in with the new seal(it was binding)but some carefull screwdriver pushing and it went right in.just like the videos the bearings just get tapped in with the help of the correct sized socket I blasted and clear coated the case, top, end cap, pitman arm nut n lock washer and adjuster lock nut(i had this done the other nite allready) I ran a wire wheel around the openings of each bore of the case just too clean up some crud that was in there(also so everthing slided back in easyly) also did the stub shaft on the bench wire wheel i didnt wanna throw that in the blaster on account of where the seals ride gettin roughed up(i guess i coulda taped it up) I kinda liked the rotory valve thing it looks like where you put the bullets in a a revolver over all i think anybody with basic tools and some patience can redo a ps box. but i must say looking at the overhaul kit in the package with all those seals in it had me a lil' intimidated, but it went pretty easy and defintly would do it again before paying what they want for a new box heres some pics

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
Great going!
I too found out it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be -but only after reading everything I could find about it. Mine was missing a couple of balls but since they just insure a smooth operation I didn't feel two less would affect the steering -which it didn't. Been driving it around for a year. If I do find additional ball bearings that don't cost an arm, I'll replace them.

Re: ps gear box rebuild?'s
yhea i guess the hardest thing too do was find the bearings i dropped that took me more time and effort than anything
