4.8 in 72 truck?

Has anyone put a newer vortec chevy motor in an older truck before? specifically a 4.8L? Can you get some good hp/tq out of those motors with a little bit of work?

bit more work then just sticking the motor in the truck, none of your stock guages will work with it, so its best to stick the whole dash in there, the new motors do make some respectable power but in my opinion the amount of work that would be required to stick one of those in a 67-72 is way too much, id rather just big block it and not worry

All gauges can easily be made to work. But personally why not go with a LS1? It's not the easiest swap but if you're going to do it...and a LS1 isn't going to be any more costly to do the actual "swap" itself. I'd consider a 5.3 before a 4.8. Just my opinion.

true, i would love to get a nice LS1, but the money to buy one is more then i am looking to pay. a guy was going to give me a 2000 5.3 motor out of a silverado with 2400k for $1000. it was a complete motor in perfect shape. but he sold it today. so now i am probably just going to get this LT1 motor this guy has for sale.
