Whats this?????
Well while I was getting ready to clean up the starter wiring. (FUN TIMES) I noticed a sensor on the transmission that had nothing to it. (See attached) I looked around and couldn't find any wiring that would go to it. What is it for?
Thanks Everyone Last edited by Zable49; 01-11-2013 at 09:44 PM. |

Re: Whats this?????
What transmission? If I remember correctly, and may be wrong with this cause it may only be Corvettes but... is that maybe where the solenoid for the passing gear goes?

Correctamundo Beetle! That option was offered exclusively for the Corvettes and the elusive Factory COPO Trucks! You've single offhandedly discovered the "missing COPO link!"

Re: Whats this?????
Jason you are correct. It is the electric kick down for a 400 transmission. If truck came factory with a 400, there should be a switch on the top of the gas peddle inside the cab.

Re: Whats this?????
Yea see thats what I was wondering, did these trucks have a similar setup as the Vettes and Camaros. I think my question was answered, so yea it should be that kickdown solenoid and its only like $20 at a parts store

Re: Whats this?????
It's for the TCS (transmission controlled spark), it also used a couple of relays on the firewall and a solenoid on the intake that had the vacuum advance hose run through it so it could adjust the amount of advance in high gear. As said earlier, it probably didn't work real well when new, and even less now days.

Re: Whats this?????
Cool, thanks guys. I think I will just remove it and block it off so I dont run the chance of it leaking down the line.
