The PO has 307 gears in the front and 373 gears in the back. Front is a Dana 44 back is a 12 bolt. Found a guy that has 3/4 ton axles with 410 gears front and back and will sell the blazer and axles for 1000$. My ? Is should I just buy the gears to go in the front to match the back or is upgrading to 3/4 ton ales worth it. I also have bought the crossover steering kit for the Dana 44 and had the knuckle machined for that, would that knuckle go on the 3/4 ton or would I have to send that knuckle in also? Thanks for any suggestions.

What size tire do you expect to run? What do you want to do with the truck? If 35's or bigger and some reasonably tough off-roading, definitely upgrade to the 3/4 ton axles. You're going to spend at least $500 re-gearing the one you have. 33's are good on 3.73 but 35's need 4.10 IMO.

Crossover steering not needed at the 4-6" lift level.

running different gears is a not good unless you use it in the mud only. like mike asked what are your plans for it? I'd say buy the blazer for the 1000 and swap in the axles. you then can sell the dana 44 with cross over kit and recoupe most of your money. heck if you wernt so far away i would take it off your hands. you will be much better off with the stronger axles and lower gears if you run large tires and do any serious wheeling.

I want either 37 or 35 tires. Might stick with 35 on 17 inch rims. Prob not any going through mud but I will use it a ton pulling trailers and around the farm. I am sure it will end up in some kind of sticky situation though.

If that's the case, I'd go with the 4.10s and the 3/4 tonners

The knuckles will work on all Dana 44's and 10 bolt front axles. There is some more info about it on Offroad Design's website.
