1972 Chevy C10 - Heater Core
What's the simplest way to replace the heater core? Can you do it all from inside the cab?

If your truck has A/C you can, but if not, no you can't. WES

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 - Heater Core
Most people including myself drop the right front inner fender to gain access to all of the bolts to remove the housing containing the core. Some can do it without, but that requires more patients than I have most of the time..

Without A/C, I pulled mine by removing the R/H hood hinge first. other wise the blower motor doesnt have enough clearance to pull away from the fire wall. The hardest part is the bolt located just under the blower and above the fender. Get a new gasket set while you have it out. You can pickem up for under 20 bucks.

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 - Heater Core
I haven't even looked at any of it yet but does the housing unbolt from inside the cab or in the engine bay? I'm getting mixed responses.
I was hoping that I could pull the housing from inside the cab and the heater-core will come out from there, with just the tubes pulling through the firewall. |

Re: 1972 Chevy C10 - Heater Core
There are 4 bolts that pass through the firewall and the outer housing on an A/C Truck. You have to take those loose from the engine side. You also will have to remove the A/C duct selector from the inside. It is the one mounted to the heater core housing. Then unplug the wires to the high speed fan relay and the resister inside the housing. Then you should be able to pull it to change the core. A/C trucks are different than non A/C trucks. WES
