Trailing arm bushings - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Aboutr a week ago I asked for input reference changing out my trailing arm bushings. I got some good replies, as ususal for this board, but when I attacked the job this evening the vision of CPNE's avatar took over.

Old bushings removed in about 5 minutes, total. Removed the bolts that hold the bushings in place, and loosened the trailing arms at the ubolt and axle housing; pushed the trailing arms down a liitle, and took a sawzall and cut the center of the bushings out. A couple of whacks and the rest of the bushings were laying on the floor. New bushings were installed in about the same amount of time. A 1 1/2" socket acted as my driver, and a hammer and the new bushings were installed within a couple of minutes. Reinstalled the control arm bushing bolts, tightened to 145ft lbs, and tightened all ubolts to 150 ft lbs.

Now this is without the bed on, so that helped alot, but this can definitely be done with the trailing arms on the truck, and without a press.

Hmm, good idea, I always end up burning them out with a torch. BTW, the bushings are still available through your local GM dealer.

Does anyone make poly bushings?

And what about panhard bushings for my Dana 60?

hmm I think I recall a full ply kit from early classics, Ill have to dig up my catalogue and find em again, Id order them, but my truck has leafs

Energy Suspension sells poly bushings for our trucks; trailing arm, control arm, the list goes on and on. They are available from LMC Truck, and are right in the catalog; pretty reasonably priced (about the only thing you'll catch me ordering from LMC :p ).

I got my energy suspension bushings for the trailing arms and panard bar from my local auto parts store. They had to order them, but they had them the next day. Dan
