For everybody to answer: smooth firewalls

Who would be interested in buying a smooth firewall kit if i were to start making them. Direct sheetmetal wants way too much money for theirs. Would you buy one if it was priced better?

Re: For everybody to answer: smooth firewalls

It will be a complete replacement assembly with the kick back for the engine. It would spot weld back in just like the original on the sides and across the lip on the bottom. It wouldnt have any holes so you could cut your own anywhere. I have a price point but what would you guys reasonably pay?

Re: For everybody to answer: smooth firewalls

475.00 for the direct sheet metal is a bit pricey

Like a delete panel? I would think about it, but even if I wouldn't, I bet a million other people would. It's really popular on the Nova's, and I've even seen custom made ones popping up here and there, so there's definitely a market for it.

I'm in north phx. Here is a picture of the first one i put together. The finished version will be a seamless piece. No holes and it will be spotwelded on like the original.

Re: For everybody to answer: smooth firewalls

The Nova ones sell for about $80, but you might not make that much off of them if you sell them for that cost - the metal alone might cost most of that.

if you want to get in the business, then you should put your price out there . not seeing what people will pay. you have to figure out your costs and profits and establish a price that you can survive at to make a living at. is that the completed firewall or will the eng cavity be welded up, show a picture of it ready to be delivered so that one can see what they are getting and to see how it is finished and perhaps a picture installed without an engine in the way.
just suggestions

Re: For everybody to answer: smooth firewalls

Honestly I don't know why there would be much interest in that panel. That does not mean that it wouldn't be popular. but the way I see it. Anybody that has the capacity to cut out and instal that panel is capable of making it themselves. It's not like its a stamped form. It's a few basic folds . You could get a sheet metal shop to bend on your layout for the cost of shipping. This may be why they sell so high. Low volume with setup and shipping expenses.

Re: For everybody to answer: smooth firewalls

Porterbuilt panels for the '67-'72 look great and are $100.

I would love something like that for my '66.

I made my own for about $20 worth of sheet steel and a couple hours work.
