Fuel gauge for LMC tank?

Hey guys,
I am looking to buy an Autometer fuel gauge. However, I don't know which one to buy for a LMC tank. I need to know what ohms gauge to use.

Anybody using a correct working gauge for an upgraded LMC tank?

Re: Fuel gauge for LMC tank?

When you look at the fuel gauges description check out what ohms it is. Your truck is a 1966 so you need a 0-90 Ohms for a OEM GM replacement float.

0-30 Ohms most pre-1965 GM cars and trucks.
0-90 Ohms most GM cars and trucks 1965-up.
Most aftermarket universal stuff is 0-90 Ohms.

I do not wish to start an argument, but I think further research will show trucks 1960 thru 1966 ALL used 0-30 ohms for OEM applications. Cars changed earlier. Not just from actual, long-term experience and observation, but also from checking some sites for ordering should verify this. For example, look at Eckler's, a well-known name for old-vehicle parts....... http://www.ecklerstrucks.com/ >>Fuel System >>click on Fuel Senders for 1960-1966 Chev Truck. Just one verification; others are out there.

Hope this helps clear up some mis-information we have experienced. I think the car vs. pickup difference caused this error to crop up some time back.

Re: Fuel gauge for LMC tank?

Guys,
thanks for the input. I suppose now I have to research what type of ohms the LMC tank kit comes with...

Re: Fuel gauge for LMC tank?

One problem, it doesn't say what ohms the kit is.....

WE've installed 2 of their(LMC"s) underbed conversion tank kits; both came with 0-30 ohm senders & worked correctly with the original gauge.

"1963c-10" gave you excellent advice. Call & verify with ANY aftermarket supplier you buy from that you get gauge-and-sender to match. Seems lots of after-market gauges use 0-90 ohm senders--which of course your original sender won't work with.

Re: Fuel gauge for LMC tank?

I actually just installed this tank conversion kit in my 1972 C10 and posted a thread about an issue I am having with my gauge not working right. If the 0-30 is what it comes with and the 72 is a 0-30,,,then why did mine shoot way past the full mark (by like 2 inches) with only about 8 gallons of the 21 capacity in it.

Keep in mind that our 60-66's all used 0-30 ohm senders/gauges. Newer models(including your 1972) likely used the 0-90 ohm combos. I think the trucks went to 0-90 ohm combos in 1967 and later; cars made the same change, IIRC, in 1966.

Look up the underbed tanks at the LMC TRUCK site. You will find the 63-66 tanks use a different Number sending unit(pkg. #4) than the one used by the '67-and-newer trucks--that newer difference includes the unit OTHER THAN 0-30 OHMS! HTH,
Sam

Re: Fuel gauge for LMC tank?

If you buy the fuel tank kit you will neet to tell them what sending unit to include. The one I got had 30 ohm printed right on the side of the box.
