I want to know about moving the rear coils to the out side of the frame. I like this and think it would make a nice addition to the relocator I bought last summer.

I could be wrong;
I think that is not a stock rear frame. With a stock frame, your springs can't be moved outside.

That's what I was thinking also. I just never saw any mention of it being a modified frame are either I missed it. Was just wanting to know for sure. Thanks.

I read the other articles on the website and it talked about the frame being a custom built frame so I guess I want be getting that mod for the 71.
Here is where I was reading about it.

If I'm not mistaken the frame is a back half conversion used to convert a long bed to a short bed.

It's true that Hellboy has a custom constructed chassis, modeled after the semi-monocouque approach used in high-end exotic sports cars.

However, the article about relocating shocks and springs is not based on Hellboy.

It's based on the rear chassis kit Rob offers. That kit is intended to help customers shorten a longbed into a shortbed, but can also be used on shortbeds as an alternative to the typical c-notch.

The panhard kit and shock relocator kit works on stock truck chassis. From what I can see, as long as the shocks have been relocated first, the spring relocators can also be installed on an otherwise stock truck.

If Rob stops in I'm sure he'll give more details. If not, I got most of my info from reading his "Make it Handle" thread. It's a long one, but very informative.

The spring relocators will not work on a STOCK frame rail. The frame rails widen as they go over the axle.

The rails in that article and the ones Rob developed to convert a long bed to a short bed. It says that in the article near the end. It should ahve been the first thing they wrote about....

The rail kit that Rob designed is parallel from the back of the cab to the rear bumper. That is why the spring mounts ARE REQUIRED for his frame rail kit.

Wow, I haven't even seen the article yet. Yes, that is our new rear rail conversion kit, not stock rails. Our rai kit keeps the rails at 34 1/2" wide O.D. all the way back, so the upper spring mounts are outboard just a bit, but the spring spacing is the same as stock. The rail kit does two things. It can be used to convert a long bed to a short bed, and it raises the rail 4" over stock. Whether it is used on a long to short conversion, or to drop, or save a short bed, the bed floor MUST be raised 4". You will see a complete article in an upcoming StreetTrucks on this. We are working with a sheet metal shop to offer a 6 pc. kit to help raise the floor. Also, I will be posting up some picts of this on our BCC build.
While HellBoy doesn't have any of our production based parts on it, it's build style makes it very easy to change and test suspension ideas, concepts and parts. Last season we tested four different shock valving set ups, more spring and sway bar sets than I could count, and three different rear suspension link assemblies. All of this information goes into the production suspensions.
There is also an article coming up featuring Porterbuilts "forward lower" A-arms for C10's. We put a set of lowers on the JT and gave it to Marcel to drive to Scottsdale. He drove it outfrom LA, 300mi., went to Dino's party, Autocrossed it all weekend, then drove it home. He'll be writing about the install, the drive and all of it. - yes, we like the arms.
