Rear-end gears

First post, so be kind. Bought 47 Chevy truck about month ago its got 235 motor with 4 speed manual transmission and the original rear-end; 4:11 I believe.

Problem is with those gears can't go over 40 unless I want to buy another motor. Looks like I could get 3:55 ring and pinion from online vendors but I don't have expertise to change this out. Live in Tampa bay area. Any suggestions on how to fix this. Thanks.....

Re: Rear-end gears

"First post, so be kind" Welcome! this isn't the Hamb or pirate4x4 lol

Here's a link to the engine/drivetrain section. Those guys may be of some help also. I think Patricks parts offers a higher gear ratio for your stock rear end for todays highways. I swapped my OE Dana45 out for a later model 68 when I found out the Dana 45 was not serviceable ( needed a pinion and no body supplies parts for a 45 anymore).
Good luck

Re: Rear-end gears

Pretty laid back crew here...........

3 options to do yourself or find a shop to do it:

1. Swap out rear end gears
2. Swap out complete rear end
3. Swap transmission to a T-5
