TH400 question

First of all, yes, I tried searching but couldn't come up with a definite answer. I have a 66 swb with a low hump in it, and a factory 3 speed on the column. I'm looking to convert it to an auto with a th400. Will I run into any fitment issues?? I know I will need a crossmember and a different driveshaft. But other then that??

Thanks a lot guys, y'all are always such a HUGE help!

Re: TH400 question

what engine ? and all you should have to do is shorten your existing driveshaft....Are you building a high performance race truck or a towing truck? If not you should go to the 700r4 for the street......it will get you lots better fuel mileage....and it will have the same performance in 1-3 at the th400......then it can still shift into OD for fuel mileage

Re: TH400 question

While I would love to have a properly set up 700, I just dont have the funds for it right now. Those 700's get pricey in a hurry when you're putting any power down..
As for a motor, the parts are being gathered. 355 with flat tops, vortec heads, isky 280 megacam, RPM air gap, headers, etc... Going for just over 400 hp..
I don't do enough highway driving to justify the cost of a built 700r4 as this is just a fair weather driver, and by the time I build a th350 up I will have more in it then a fairly stock TH400. I know the th350 can probably handle what I will throw at it, but I KNOW the TH400 will, with ease..

Re: TH400 question

That place is a blast!..... When its not shoulder to shoulder people, which is rare now days. I actually just sold everything that I had, because the place is always overcrowded. It was getting really unsafe due to all the slobering drunk idiots with such powerful machines and no self control. That was the only place I loved riding but after the second death I witnessed there I decided to hang the helmet up..

Re: TH400 question

The crossmember that supports your manual transmission belhousing will have to be cut out. I've not tried it, but I've read that you can't really drill the rivets and slide this crossmember out unless you lift the cab from the frame, so you're probably looking at using a sawzall or something.
