ok....... so now that I just swapped a 71 front crossmember into my 69 for the front disks....... bought 6 lug rotors to keep the stock look for my 69 and after a lot of beating to fit and painting to match I stumbled across this most fun challenge....... my stock 6 lug rim wont fit because the caliper hits it.....now isn't that fun!!!! Has anyone come across this before and if so, what did you do to combat this? I like the stock hubcap look to keep the truck a "sleeper" but should I just break down and buy a set of rims? Also does anyone have the exact numbers height, width, backspacing,on rims that fit without PROBLEMS!!! Also if I choose to go with a set of rims I want to try 17's.... if anyone could pass along proper dimensions of rims that fit would be much appreciated. Hey and if anyone has rims that will work for sale as well...... pass that along as well.... I may snag them. thanks

I heard that this would happen with the stock wheels, I didn't have that problem because I have 6 lug rally wheels. My wheels are 15x8 with 4.5" backspace. You will clear with no problems!

I have 15x7 rallys on the front of my 6-lug disc but had the same problem the stock rims will not fit.

Yes, I seen that! LOL I still have not forgotten about your question on the 6-lug rotors. But I can not never remember to ask them. LOL But I will.

You should be able to just use stock steel 4x4 wheels for 71-up.

I am not a huge fan of spacers, but if your lugnuts are long enough, they'll do the trick.

This is the best solution, 71-up 1/2 ton 4x4. They are 6 lug and designed for disk brake front ends.

Thanks for the input guys.... was also wondering what width of a 17 " rim would fit in the front with no problems? I was thinking about a 17 x 7

I would think that a 17 inch wheel with a 4.5 inch backspace would work. You will not have any interferance with the caliper or rotor with a larger diameter wheel so, You just need to get the right backspace.

Back in my tractor and truck pulling days (before it got nuts with the high-dollar sponsored guys), I used to run a 3/4 ton Ferd. (By the way, I can tell you the maximum RPM that basically stock big-block Ferd valve springs will take just before they break.) It had factory 16 inch 8-lug wheels. I made some 15 inch rims from old 8-lug 15 inchers by splitting them in half and welding in 2 inch flat stock to make them 2 inches wider so I could 15 inch tractor-lug type tires from a hay swather. (Hey, it was cheaper than buying new wheels and I taught welding!) Well, the 15 inch rims hit the corners of the calipers a little. 10 minutes and a right-angle grinder on the caliper took care of that.

(Legal disclaimer: it won't work if you have to grind too much. Don't compromise the integrity of your caliper.)

I have 17x8.5 Impala SS rims on my tuck. They fit nice and dont rub. I have 275/55/17 tires on all 4 corners...but I am running the sock 5 lug (71 C10)

I got the disc brake conversion from early classics, I am running 6 lug ralleys off a 74 chevy 4x4 with no problems
