drive shaft

does anyone have any direction to what drive shaft to use. 51 3100 with 350 and a 700r4 with a 10 bolt rear end. is there and shaft that may fit or is close to the right length?

Re: drive shaft

Measure from the rear of the tail shaft to the cross center area of the rear yolk ( across the ujoint cap if it was installed) and report back. I'm guessing the rear 10 bolt is using a 1310 joint and your shaft length is around 52" ?

Re: drive shaft

you'd have to search the junk yards with your measurements keeping in mind what yolks your looking for
or do like most of us and get one built for your truck
if you bring a too long shaft that fits one end and a yolk for the other end it will keep cost down
that way your just paying to get one shortened instead of a new shaft

I just spent 3 lunch hours digging and cross checking and found that a 52 inch factory 92 S-10 Blazer 4 door 4x4 rear shaft with a conversion ujoint has 27 spline front and is a perfect fit when the rear axle is centered at the spring pack instead of forward like they come factory. Gives about 1 1/2 inch of slip and works great, bolts in and done. $40.00 My 250 and his 350 should be in the same location using both the factory mounts which I am and hopefully he is too. The 700r4 will fall in the same spot, rear should be in the same spot.

Re: drive shaft

Like Ogre mentioned, get a longer one than needed and its cheaper to cut it down and balence vs. replacing the tube. All th350/th400/700r4 and 2004r trans were 27 spline. Start there and work back.

I found a 92 sblzr 4door 4x4 rear shaft will bolt right in at 52 inches with a conversion joint ( half is blazer / half is 1310 spicer)

Re: drive shaft

Monte Carlo has a 52" drive shaft center to center of u joint.

What year is your rear end?, car or truck?

This u joint converts s44 gm (s 10, caprice monte carlo) to 1310 spicer, 72 and back I believe.

Re: drive shaft

Its only $35 at a local driveline shop here to have one that is too long, cut down and rebalanced. He charges about 275 to build a complete one. Hope this gives you an idea of cost if you have a local shop near you.
