Tranny finish
I am getting ready to pull my motor and tranny to do some engine Mods and to replace my leaky front tranny seal and torque convertor.
My question is, What is the best finish for my motor and tranny that I can apply in my garage? I want the motor to be orange, kinda like my truck in my avatar. I am also either wanting my tranny to be silver, or from what I have been reading, the original aluminum finish with a clear coat. What are your recommendations as far as finish? I have seen alot of your engines on this board am always impressed on the way they look. I will have to use rattle can, and am wanting to know the best stuff to use? Thanks for any help!!

I'd say VHT for the engine all though I'm not sure of the colors available. Eastwood has a few good clears and some paint that matches aluminum and cast metal.

Yes. Haven't bought any in a few years but used to be able to get it at most auto parts places. If not try Summit or Jegs.

Some transmissions can be cleaned and they will look pretty good. We also paint them with Eastwood's "Alumablast" .
Bead blasting really makes the natural finish look nice and than you could clear coat it. Here is a pic on my M-22 that has been bead blasted but not cleared. Jim |

I have used the hi-temp paint from wally world just make sure everything is clean . I usally put 3 or 4 coat's on the motor and they seem to hold up really well...I also use 2 or 3 coat's of the clear, but be carful of putting the clear on heavy as it will turn white... Just my 2 cent's.
