Alternator Ext vs Int
I have a 71 C20 and I am considering replacing my externally regulated alternator with an internally regulated one. What are the pros and cons. I know I will need a different connector but what kind and where would be the best place to get the alternator and connector? Thanks for the assist

Re: Alternator Ext vs Int
I would get a genuine rebuilt-by-Delco from O'Reileys or Advance or your local Delco distributor.
As far as connetors, on the alternator you can go buy a pigtail from a parts house, remove the connector, and swap onto your wires. At the regulator, just jumper outer to outer and inner to inner.

Re: Alternator Ext vs Int
The internal is more reliable & has a more constant voltage which will make the bat. & electronic equip. last longer.

Re: Alternator Ext vs Int
The main con is that the internal regulated alternators are more expensive.

Re: Alternator Ext vs Int
There used to be a step by step how to thread for converting to an internal regulator alternator, but after much searching I cannot locate it? I'm pretty sure it was in the F.A.Q. section. I converted mine and it worked great.

This conversion is found in the truck faq section.
