New tailgate binding... help!!
I have a reproduction no letter tailgate. My hubby and I put it on the other day and it is binding up as you open it. The parts that hold the tailgate when it is down seem to bind up. Has anyone had this problem??? It seemed like if I "scooted" the tailgate to the pass side on its hinges when it was up, then when I opened it, it wouldn't bind up. Has anyone ever had to install shims, or will that make the tailgate not work like it should?? Not a big problem, but annoying enough to bother me.
Thanks- Diane |

That is a pretty common problem when the tailgate links start to ware out. They get sloppy and catch on the tailgate when you try to open it. The best fix is to replace the links with new ones, or try to find a real nice set of used. (We have both in stock) WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

If you want a quick fix till you get new ones, take them off and use a sludge hammer on the rivet area and that will tighten them up.

I shimmed my tailgate at teh bottom to get it centered. I used washers on the lower pivots.
