Can a brake booster be mounted directly to the firewall without a bracket unnecessarily pushing it out?

Yes, but it will interfere with column shift linkage.

I've got a Lokar floor mount shifter with my TH350, so I should be good, I guess. I was thinking that maybe the plunger shaft would be shorter and that would somehow not have enough leverage to give good power braking. Thanks

LockDoc, I was just looking at that bracket this past weekend (thanks for that), and wondering why even that might be necessary. After seeing the Blazer in Street Trucks, I called Hill's and asked what the setup was--it's mounted flush, or looks like it in the photos. The owner is a very nice guy and was explaining how the MBM booster he used has a slightly different mounting position than others, so he redrilled holes, redrilled and lowered the pedal assembly inside and crafted his own plunger arm. He also fabbed a 7/8" thick plate to angle the booster upward--it's 1/4" thick up top--so technically his isn't flush with the firewall either.
I don't know that it's necessary to do that extra work if every other booster besides the MBM just bolts right on, and use CaptainFab's bracket. I'm just thinking it looks better without that deep, ugly bracket, and I'm running the straight six with the stock air cleaner, so I need the clearance. I hate the look of the offset I6 air cleaner that puts it over the valve cover...hate it. |
