How do you take off the emblems?

Most are held on by nuts.
What year Suburban, and emblems are you referring to?

68 "custom" on driver door... Chevrolet across hood. And all the rest. I didn't know they were bolted.

Those are all held on with sheet metal nuts.
The hood letters are easy to get to, where as the "Custom" emblem is a bit tricky. The door emblem you will have to take the glass out to get to the nuts holding it in place (Unless you have really small arms and hands).
