Removing Drive shaft loop cross member - 1972 C10

Getting to the final stages of the Porterbuilt dropmember rear install and I am not sure about removing the drive shaft loop cross member?

Going to cut a small arc in the back of the cab for drive shaft clearance and need to remove this cross member.

Will removing this cross member cause the frame to become weak or twist?

Thanks.........

You mean the crossmember that the trailing arms attach to? That's the only one I can think that the driveshaft goes thru. Is this a trick question? Yea, pretty important piece. How did you get this far?

Yes, you need that crossmember, ties the frame rails together. If you are keeping the trailing arms you have to have something to attach them to. If not stock then a custom crossmember.
A bit of advice here....if you get a responce you don't like or p.o's you, ignore it and move on, someone here will help you. Responding like you did and your stay here will be short lived. Trust me.

Even if you didnt need the trailing arm mounts anymore. I would leave it in for strenght. Its a nice beefy piece.

Re: Removing Drive shaft loop cross member - 1972 C10

Not trying to cause trouble. I purchased the Porterbuilt drop member rear with the 4 link. I will not be using the trailing arm crossmember.

Just didn't know if removing it would cause issues.

Thank you
Again not trying to cause problems just didn't think the reply was appropriate.

x2

It was a question I had to read twice, and thats a good looking project.

How about giving Nate a call @ Porterbuilt?

I know he makes a new crossmember, maybe thats what you need for your project?

If not i'm sure he could steer you in the right direction.

Re: Removing Drive shaft loop cross member - 1972 C10

Thank you. That is exactly the reason I joined this forum. This is my first C10 project and I really want it to turn out nice. I have completed several 67 Camaro's but this type of build is way different.

Looking forward to seeing more of your truck here. I think you'll be fine, just be polite and you'll be treated the same.

OK now that makes sense. I did not understand your question as I am not that familiar with the Porterbuilt components. I saw trailing arms. My apology to the forum.

Slam'ed's reply made me laugh.

Re: Removing Drive shaft loop cross member - 1972 C10

This is their two piece drive shaft crossmember. It doesn't have any attaching points for trailing arm so I would assume its for a four-link and you wouldn't need the crossmember unless you had the two piece driveshaft. Seem kinda flimsy without it but then again leaf sprung trucks don't have anything there.

Re: Removing Drive shaft loop cross member - 1972 C10

I apologize for my previous comments concerning this post. I took what was said out of context.

Like everyone else here I am wanting to gain knowledge on c10 builds.
