what's a good price to acid-dip a cab?

A buddy of mine who works at one of my bodyshop accounts told me yesterday that when he helped a guy restore an Austin-Healey, that they got the whole body acid-dipped and epoxy-primered for $300; which included using a special primer-gun to get in all the crevices and behind panels to make sure the body would not rust. This sounds like a good price to me to dip a cab and other sheetmetal. He's getting the name of the place for me today.

SC,
There is a place around I-35 and 820 (south) that does that. A friend did a '58 pickup had them do his doors and fenders. They came out very nice. I'm not sure on the cost. Here is the info:

Meal Rehab Technologies, Inc
6024-D Old Hemphill Rd
Fort Worth, TX
817-551-6632
They usually have a booth at all the larger swap meets, so I would guess they do a pretty good job.

Good Luck,

Casey-

Let me know what you find out. I'd like to have the cab I brought back from Arizona acid-dipped, as well as some other sheetmetal I have.

I've gone over every inch of this cab, and can't find ANY rust anywhere! Surely stripping rust free metal would be easier than old rusted stuff. I just want to strip off all the old ochre paint, seam sealer and junk like that and start from scratch on the paint.

Metal Rehab did mine C-30 cab, doors, fenders, cowl, hood. Did a real nice job. Cab alone was $1148.00 to strip & derust, test & hazardous waste disposal fee, epoxy prime. Was very satisfied with the work they did for me. On the big stuff plan on getting on a waiting list. I was 6 months out on the list.

Make sure the place you have it done has been around for some time. My nephew and one other friend had their 70 and 71 cabs done and the shop never got the rust stripper chemical out of the window posts and in between the ceiling and roof. Not a big deal for the first 2 or 3 years then the rust came through so bad the whole roof had to be replaced on both trucks. Seems that chemical if not neutralized properly becomes metals worst nightmare. Just something to keep in your mind when choosing the right place.

i would have to agree with western star this would seem to be one of those things where you get what you pay for. and if this one guy is that much cheaper theres a reason for it. work quality might be suffering
