Hey guys, I got member Truckseats hooking me up with a new turqouise cover for my 67, and was needing a little advice on what you guys used for foam? Should I use a kit? Or buy foam and shape it.. Any help I will appreciate.. Thanks Justin

One thing to be aware of is that some bench seats have a thin bottom foam and others (later years) have the thick foam layer. The thin foam layer was not available when I checked a few years ago.

If you have the late foam seat, and you can afford it, get the kit but if you can do the foam shaping and have the tools and knowledge, you may be better off. Still going to be expensive though. I wound up getting the rear bench seat from an 86 Chevy crew cab.

Re: Truck Seat Foam

If you are getting a replacement cover from Truckseats, then you should probably get the stock replacement foam (kit). If you were having a custom cover made, then you could mould it. Cutting/shaping foam isn't all that hard, but the stock-style cover won't look right over shaped/cut foam.

That's my opinion anyways.

Re: Truck Seat Foam

I replaced the foam on the drivers side in my 67. Also discovered the outside springs were broken. Before I started I read Jim's build thread where he rebuilds his seat foam.

I have a parts 68 that I stole some seat springs out of the passenger side to give my seat a boost. It was a different style seat(thin foam) but I made it work. For my foam I went to a MAC's hardware store with the foam numbers from Jim's thread. For the driver's area it was around $40. I left a little more foam on so I had more cushion. You can definitely tell that it's not the stock foam. I didn't get the shape just right but it's comfortable so I look past the lumpiness.

If I remember right replacement foam is very expensive.

Re: Truck Seat Foam

When I did my seat with a cover from Truckseats, I used new foams from American Cushion Industries. I swear I bought them from someone in the vendors forum on this site, but darned if I can find any history of the transaction now that I need it.

Anyway, the foam fit perfectly and made installing the cover easy. It *is* a bit stiff, but probably feels that way because the old foam was so shot my @ss was in the springs...

Re: Truck Seat Foam

Ya, that's the thread, KEL. I bought the foams from PICKMUP. IMO worth the investment.
