New Steering Box- Now I Have Noise and Air

Swapped out my leaking PS box for a new rebuilt unit. The fluid is topped off but I have tons of noise when I steer or brake. After the install I took it for a test drive. When I got back the PS reservoir looked like a soda fountain. It was literally pushing foamy fluid past the cap.

Is all this air coming from my hydroboost? What's the best way to fix the problem??

Re: New Steering Box- Now I Have Noise and Air

This was the first time someone other than myself has worked on my truck. As I think thru this, I'm wondering if the guy installed the lines on the steering box correctly. I have -6AN adapters in the steering box so either line will fit. He may have put them on backwards. Damn..I'll need to check. Considering the pressure built up in the reservoir, I'll bet that's the problem.

Re: New Steering Box- Now I Have Noise and Air

You also need to bleed a PS system when it's been worked on.Try jacking up the front wheels and turning the wheel lock to lock.Keep the cap on while doing it but check the fluid level.I shut it off to check but ran the engine to get the pump to flow fluid thru the system while turning the wheel. It may take several cycles left to tright and back. When you have all the air out you shouldn't see many if any bubbles on the top of the fluid.
