Exterior Molding? ok to delete?

Heya All,

Huge noob here, so my apologies up front if this is a dumb question or one that has been answered already. I did attempt a search without much luck.

I should have my "new" 1969 C10 next week or the week after. Still working on shipping. I can't wait to get her here and decode the "SPID" for more info about her (at least I think that is what it is called from my reading thus far). I have a video from the PO, a friend, and I can tell that she had both upper and lower molding at one time. Thing is most of it is missing.

My question is, is it a mortal sin in the "rebuild" to skip the molding. Fill in the holes and go smooth? I think I would prefer the smooth look, but was looking for opinons and insight from folks in the know. I appreciate any replies and I look forward to hanging out with yall.

2Cav Welcome to the Board.Its your truck and if you like the smooth look then thats how you should rebuild it.Looking forward to pics of the truck and the spid when you get it.

It all is a person to person thing. If your going for original keep it custom semi custom go with what you feel many have gone both ways

I personally like the trim with two tone paint schemes... solid colors look better with no trim or just the bottom trim only.

Im pretty sure the rules around here are you can not build the truck the way you personally like it. You must get the OK from the masses here on the board first =)

Just remember that you don't know much about these trucks yet, and so what you think you like now, might not be how you feel as you go along.

I was hellbent to tear all my moulding off and paint the truck. I had one piece of moulding missing on the tailgate, I tore the rest off and threw it away. Then, I realized I liked the trim, and spent the next few months hating the eyesore backside and looking for some replacement trim. Finally found it, and I'm satisfied. Oh, and I have no plans to paint it either. IMHO, if you want a no trim truck with perfect paint, you can walk down to the chevy dealer and lease one. I'm looking for something unique.

So, let things settle and see what you end up liking, and THEN start doing what YOU want

Love your truck and build it how you see fit. From a semi-newbs perspective hold off on filling any holes for a while. You may kick yourself later! My advice? Rock it for a while and see if you still wanna fill all the holes. If nothing else make sure you know where those holes were and what trim it had on it in case you change your mind! Welcome to the club!

Thank you all again for the replies! The advice to leave it for a bit and not rush to fill the holes was awesome.

Also loved Gene's comment about hacking up the dash. Some decent tunes are an absolute must, and while I am not a huge fan of cutting up a classic, I am afraid her dash will be in for some early surgery! But, I am going to go single din, cut as little as I can, and I hope to fab up a fake cover out of fiberglass I can snap on with some old time dials and tuner, so if she is ever show ready I can hide the new from the casual eye.

Just one radio idea also check out the aftermarket like Lmc they have old style stereos with 6 disc changer or USB hook ups

Dude, just install a stock radio like I did. Then, if you want, don't even wire it up, but install a fancy stereo and speakers under your bench seat, with a wireless remote.

Cool truck. If it were me I would do the full trim. Full trim on an all orange truck is classic, plus there's something cool about making the girl look like she did back in 1970. As for the radio, I like the look of a stock radio on the dash but like misterb said, hide a modern stereo somewhere else. Remember they're only stock once.

I was in a rush to get my truck painted and filled the lower holes. Then....I didn't get it done by winter, and as it sat in the garage I realized I really did want a two tone.

I agree with the other post, take your time. Look at a bunch of pictures, go look around at a car show, and don't rush it. You'll be happy you waited.

Or you could buy a plate to make it look better after the cut, mine was actually already cut when I got it
