Mid '80s 3/4 ton motor mounts in a '66
After reading that '80s vintage 3/4 ton motor mount assemblies were a direct bolt in, my friend Don and I went shopping at a local yard. We found two sets of these mounts.
We brought them back to my shop and test fitted them in my '66. They are "nearly" a direct fit. It looks like they need an 1/8 inch shim on top of the top frame rail. For comparison, we fitted these frame mounts as well as an original set in the truck, and took measurements. It appears that the '80s 3/4 ton mounts will position the engine 1 1/2 inches forward of the originals. It would be fairly easy to redrill some mounting holes to move the engine to the rear. The forward position might be OK to gain more engine to firewall clearance. This is an easy upgrade and well worth doing. |

I used 1972 mounts in my 1962 front mounted 283 to 406 small block. Drill the holes and fit perfect.

That may not be a bad idea. Especially if you run a HEI distributor because they sit so close to the firewall. Might give you just a little bit of room in the rear.

Here are some pictures of the mid '80s 3/4 ton mounts positioned on the frame on my' 66 pickup. These pictures show how the mounts sit on the frame. The measurements are taken from a common point on the firewall to illustrate how much farther forward an engine will sit when using the later mounts.
For comparison, the pictures show both a stock mount and the later 3/4 ton mount. |

If you trim the top flange of the frame back 3/8-1/2" like the '68 and up frames, those motor mount brackets will sit down on top of the frame a little better.
