Trim removal
Doing a trim transplant. Wanting advise or instructions on the best way to remove side trim without damaging it

I found online somewhere if u push down on the top side with like a board and pull out on the bottom at the same time with a putty knife or somthing similar they come off pretty easy but be prepared to replace the fasteners

I took the inner off up front to get to the nuts. Sprayed them down with WD-40 let them set a day then took the nuts off. O n my door trim i had to take the doors off to get to the nuts at the front of the door.WD-40 took the nuts off. The trim on the bed is EZ. Take your time and dont pull hard or you will bend(stretch) them. Just work your way down the trim one fastener at a time. You dont need to break anything.

Both suggestions are good. Use a putty knife to gently pull the trim away from body and allowing a little room for a small tool. The spring that holds the cam in place can be released with a small pick tool with a 90 degee bend on the end of it. Run it under the trim until it bumps onto either the cam or a spring. You can tell the difference easily because of width of the spring wire vs the cam. Tease the spring wire up and out of the track and the cam will turn easily by pulling the tool in the release direction. Look at a few pieces of trim with the cam installed on them first to get the idea. I removed all the trim on a K5 Blazer CST in a few minutes this way.

I couldn't resist. GuyO, excellent input, I gotta take mine off soon too, so I've been watching this thread. Aren't some of the clips accessible from behind and they can be released by compressing the retainers? Thx again for posting, good explanation. |

I believe on the bed are pretty accessible fenders and doors are harder to get behind
