Gear question

I was wondering what a set of 4.10's would do to my truck. Right now its a 6.2/465/208 combo with 3.07 rears. Only reason i ask about 4.10 specifically is because they're free.

Re: Gear question

to be honest rpms will go way up and mpg will go way down, your truck will top out at about 55 it being a diesel with probably a 4000 rpm redline, but it will pull a ship down the road at 55, without a trailer. i wouldnt do it, now if it were a gas engine with tall tires i would but with your diesel and its low redline i wouldnt

Re: Gear question

Re: Gear question

My blazer came factory with 3:73 gears and an overdrive. With 4:10s you will want an overdrive or a gearsplitter

Re: Gear question

WIth the torque of a diesel, you really don't need that much gear reduction, and they want to rev lower, too.

Re: Gear question

With 33" tall tires, there is nothing wrong with 4.10 gears if you have overdrive. Without overdrive, Id put in 3.73s. My old 75 GMC 3/4 ton had 33" tires and 4.10 rear, drove it daily for 2 years. I cruised it 70 mph on freeway vs. my 99 silverado with same size tires and 4.10 was purfect for the 5 years I drove it..it had overdrive.

Re: Gear question

I've got an 85 3/4 ton that has the factory 4.10 gears in it with a TH400. I'm looking at 3000 RPM at 65-70 and getting 10 MPG. I'm going to put in some 3.73's once I can afford to.
