67 Short step side bed crossmember breakdown?
I pulled my bed of my shorty tonight. PO had put in a steel bed. One of the crossmembers werent touching the steel at all, looks like they may have added a short ont to the middle and the one in the rear had a 3/4 piece of tubing welded to it.
Does anyone have pics or a diagram of how the crossmembers should be? |

Re: 67 Short step side bed crossmember breakdown?
Thanks for that diagram...
Looking at dimensions L and N, if we subtract the two, that gives is 7 inches. Looking at the pic below there are no mounting holes in the frame at 7 inches (end of tape) ![]() Is this brace just free floating? Also if you look closer to the tire you can see where the PO has decided to weld in a brace of his own. PO had a steel be installed and I am trying to possibly remove that and replace with wood. |

Re: 67 Short step side bed crossmember breakdown?
Here is the drawing notated for those following along. You are correct there is a spacing of 6.98" (centerline) between it ("N") and the "L" crossmember. Also as the pictures show it is a light stringer and is attached to the bed only (on both bed styles and all lengths). Basicaly it is a tie strip.
