New to forum, need lift advice

Hello guys, I finally bought a 1988 GMC Jimmy 4x4 I have wanted one of these since I could drive. I have some 36x14.50x16 STS tires mtd on 16x10 AR wheels and I want to put them on my Jimmy with a lift. Problem is I dont want to much lift or too little lift. I was thinking 6", but these fenderwheels are so big I was wondering if a simple 4" would suffice. I have only had IFS lifts in the past so I really need some help and good advice on lift size, lift brand and anything else I will need or should do to run these tires and install this lift. Will d-shaft need to be lengthened etc?

Just fyi...I live in south Texas so theres no rocks to crawl, or alot of "flexy" situations. I plan on using this Jimmy for beach trips (wade fisherman) and camping...basically light offroading. This is my daily driver.

My friend had a 2" blocks in back and springs in front and he fit 33's. Now he has a 4" Lift springs all around with 35 BF's and they fit good. Just make sure that they aren't to wide or they will rub when you turn. Personally i putting a 4" on with 33's BF's

Okay, well I guess I need a 6" lift then to be sure I dont rub.

Any specific brand or custom setup that anyone prefers?

I want to do this right the first time.

if you are to do it right. Use springs all over front and back do not use blocks. Superlift or ProComp are good but remember that a 6" lift may lift you up higher than that depending on the manufacturer. I would call them and ask before purchasing it. Also remember you will have to change your pitman arm. i dont know if that comes in the kit.

I have Tuff country 6" on mine and highly recommend any TC product, plan on extending your drivelines and getting extended brake lines and steering arm if you want to do it right. I agree with springs all the way around if you plan on wheeling it but if you don't blocks are fine plus 6" spring in the rear will effect ride quality.

I really like the Skyjacker lifts... that is what I'm planning to get for my 76.

the 6" Pro Comp lift at 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers is a good and inexpensive lift. I have had one in an 86 Sub and a 75 K5, and have been very impressed. If you do go 6' in a Blazer/Jimmy, make sure you do the raised pitman arm, s-shaped drag link, and extended brake lines. I would also suggest using double shocks in the front, as it helped considerably on the Blazer. You will need to get the driveshafts lengthened as well, and it seems like I dropped the transfer case about 1/2 inch to ease the driveline angles a bit.

Thanks guys, well I ordered a rough country 6" full spring kit, raised steering arm, sway bar drops/bushings,extended SS brake lines, shocks and dual steering stabilizer. Got all this delivered to my door for $650
I priced out the same in skyjacker and it was $1200.....I just couldn't see paying double.
Im spending the money I saved on some HD front shackles and greasable bushings on all the springs. Also ordered the steering box brace (no cracks yet).

when do we get to see it? ive got a 4" tc lift, thinking of going another 1 with shackel flips...would like to see it
