I was lucky with mine. I only had to knock out a couple little dings in the bed floor, and the rest of the inside of the bed was nearly perfect. I have a 4' X 6' door mat that I protect the paint with. I got it at Home Depot for ~$30

Re: Would you guy[and ladies] rather have
I prefer steel for durability, but wood looks so much better in these trucks. If I was rebuilding my bed I would have to go with wood.
I have a fairly decent steel floor with only one small rust hole, so I can't make myself replace it.

I like both and have had both but it is hard to beat a nice metal bed. Pic is my old '71 long fleet. Finished wood only if it spends most of it's life inside... LockDoc

Re: Would you guy[and ladies] rather have
I had it all.....Metal covered by wood covered by carpet. when I bought the truck I rolled under it and only saw a small amout of rust and all the supports looked solid. So I tear the carpet up and see the wood then tear the wood up and see the bed rotted out over the supports just enough where it was unseen from the bottom........Back to the Q? As long as there are no holes in it I think they both look good.

Re: Would you guy[and ladies] rather have
Well if you can`t choose why not both?
serious note though have you considered metal bed but get a wood removable insert, seen them made before and i`m sure someone somewhere sells them. i seem to recall seeing a kit on gears with stacey david. that way metal for hauling or use and put wood in for show.

Re: Would you guy[and ladies] rather have
I also have both (both need work). The wood bed is very nice when finished and the metal is ..........well metal. My 72 will not be a hauler and has a metal bed but my 67 will be used to haul and it has the wood (hmmm should have been the other way around). I am going to replace the wood in the 67 with composite decking from Lowes. It will still have the wood texture and appearance but will be more durable than wood and will never have to be replaced. Good Luck

This is probably what you saw on the program... http://www.horkeyswoodandparts.com/ "We also developed the SHOW DECK bedliner, the ultimate in cosmetic upgrades. Custom made to fit pickups with a steel floor or for trucks that are in need of a new floor. The SHOW DECK is mounted to a rubber padded aluminum sub-frame and simply rests on top of the existing floor.A screwdriver and tape measure are all the tools needed for assembly." LockDoc
