Re: tilt column
The hazard switch may have been replaced. The newer ones like this will screw onto to old switch. What is the overall length of your column? That will determine whether or not its a truck or van tilt. I forget the exact dims, but a van tilt is longer and requires collapsing the intermediate shaft.

Re: tilt column
Judging from the half round "horseshoe" wiring connector, I am going to go out on a limb and say you have a truck tilt. I believe all of the newer columns had a flat connector. Does anyone know if the "old" van columns also had the "horseshoe" connector?

Re: tilt column
Pictures of the splined end (most positive identifier), the gear selector indicator lens and the levers would be a lot of help. I'm guessing it's a true truck tilt. I've "rescued" 3 of these over the last couple years, and one or 2 had that incorrect knob for the flashers.
Edit: Looked at the pics again. The turn signal and tilt levers are correct for a truck tilt. |

Re: tilt column
Could be a motor home tilt. They are the same in lenght and are almost the same as the truck tilt key word being almost. The end of the steering shaft is the same the shifter is angled a little differently being not at all on the M/H tilt the nss is in a different placebut can be moved as the slot is in the other place as well. The M/H tilt were able to be had in a lot of P 30 trucks/vans/motor homes multi use type things they used them for through the 1985 model year that I know of because the latest one I have is that model. I am sure at some time or another someone has passed one of these off as a truck tilt either knowingly or unknowingly I think it could be a honest mistake if you were not very familair with the trucks in's and out's

Re: tilt column
So far it looks like the real deal. The shift indicator lens is the truck type. If the splined shaft extends only about 2" from the end of column housing and the arm where the shift linkage attaches is straight (no bends in it), I'd say it's a truck unit. The van column shafts extend about 5" or 6", and the motorhome linkage arm has two 90 degree bends to create about an inch offset. All dimensions are a rough estimate since I don't have any columns here to measure.

Re: tilt column
It's easy to swap the button if someone wanted to, but more than likely the turn signal switch was replaced, and the replacement came with the newer style button. Very common. I have found 3 truck tilts in the last couple years. I think 2 of them had the same button type as yours.
