I put these on ebay to see what they would do because I have never had a set this complete before.

i have those lights on my truck, and FYI this style was only available on trucks, from 69-72 (and beyond, I think all the way til '91 on the R/V series, also on mediums and maybe heavies in that time frame too). it was the style that came from the factory with the roof bumps. RPO U01.

Thanks for the info

After I read your reply I did some checking and the kit part number shows up in 71-72 (which coresponds to the story we got from the guy that we bought them from), the lenses start in 70 and the base gaskets show up in 67. The gaskets fit the contours of a cab that doesn't have the bumps and the instructions show a 67-72 cab in it.

It makes me think that the kit is a dealer install item.

Based on the instructions, it definately shows a non "hockey puck" cab roof and dimensions to cut holes therein. Based on that, it's definately a dealer add-on kit. That being said, it is the EXACT same parts that would have been used on 70-72 factory equipped (hockey puck roof) light duty trucks. The reason the lenses show up in 70 is because in 67-69 GM used a round lense vs teardrop shape. The reason the gaskets show up in 67 is because the "hockey puck" roof was used on heavy duty seris 40-60 trucks as early as 67. 67-68 light duty trucks could not be ordered with factory roof lights and the dealer installed ones I've seen are the teardrop shaped with chrome housings on these years.

69GMC your truck should have round lenses, possibly replaced by a PO?

Shawn, your kit would make a nice find for someone restoring a 70-72 pickup with factory optioned clearance lights.

Thanks for the info, I had a hard time trying to find anything on them due to there just isn't any early trucks around here with those lights on them (guess they weren't a big seller in Arizona)

Percentage-wise, clearance lights are prevalent here. Plow trucks look cool with them dontcha think? I'll post some pics of a sweetheart of a plow truck I saw today with them, but for now my pride and joy will have to do.

CPNE...when i got my truck, it had 3 of the "hockey puck" lights and 2 of the style that are on there now. the hockey pucks just don't look right to me, plus 2 of them were fatally cracked (read: fell apart when i took them off the roof, dunno how they held together). plus, the newer style are everywhere in the junkyards, i think i got 3 lenses + rubber pads + SS screws for around $6. i'm happy with the result.

Shawn - I'll have to stopy by with my truck sometime. It's got the factory clearance lights... and frankly it looks pretty cool at night. I'd consider your ebay item, but I'm still thinking about those metal/woodgrain door panels you've got for $100 and I'm on a limited budget.

I wasn't criticizing your choice as I think the 70-72 style looks better too. I was just re-enforcing the statement I made that the lens # are 70-up and 69 had factory clearance but used a different lens. Are you the guy that has the GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 dog dish hubcaps? If so, wanna sell them?

clearance lights

You will love this one. My wife and I have a 69 gmc 1/2 ton that has the "factory" clearance lights. We also have the glove box sticker that states the were put on at the factory. We have had numerous people tell us that they were added on because 1/2 ton trucks Dont have 'em! Right now they arent functional, however, yes the are factory!
