How much of a pain is it going to be for me to ship parts to Canada. I had a guy win a turbo I was selling on ebay and he's from Canada. Is it going to be a huge pain to get it to him. I had on my auction that I would only ship to US, but I got a really good price for it. I don't want a huge hassle to do it either though. Any of you guys do this much?

Its really not that big of a deal with UPS its just that it cost alot more. UPS could care less where they ship it.

UPS does. I have shipped parts all over the world thru my work and never had a problem.

It is of no extra work to you at all. Just take the item to UPS, give them the address to the person it is heading to, pay them and thats it.

UPS does the rest.

You can ship anyway you want to Canada. The only difference is that you have to fill out a little tiny piece of paper on the box saying what is in it. eg. turbo, value $100, gift?

The amount that you write on the form will end up being how much we will pay tax on. So it is $100 US = $130 CDN * 14% = $148.20
We will have to pay an additional $18.20

Now as for UPS they try an screw us Canadians BIG TIME with customs. They have there own broker fill out the paper work and that $18.20 could turn into $40.00 if the person you are sending it to isn't all that sharp. This is the reason that I try to get Americans to send me stuff through the postal system. They only charge you $5.00 to do the customs stuff.

One major beef I have is that some of you guys down south seem to think that Canada is some mysterious place that has their mail delivered by dog sled. I hate constantly having to ask ebayers if they would be willing to ship to Canada, I have had to ask this question to sellers hundreds of times, I think every single one has agreed to but its a hassle to have to ask and wait to hear back. If you are an Ebay seller, check off that little box that says will ship to Canada. If you don't you could be turning away a population of 30 million. It isnt that hard to ship to Canada, fill out a little sheet, learn to write letters in the "zip code" spot. Hell there are probably online postage rate calculators you could use.

I'm with Gee Emm on this one. If possible I always get stuff sent from the USA by post office. Our post office is more cooperative than UPS or FedEx. Hard to believe given they are a government department - but true. The couriers rob us blind on the customs brokerage fees. You can do it yourself but that is a bit of a hassle too so the easiest is the Post Office if the part is small enough to ship that way.

I sold a set of Rancho 9000s and air pump kit for it on E-bay to Canada, it took forever for the guy to get the package, and they nailed him pretty good for customs. I sent via his carrier preference, and then he got ticked at me for what they charged, and how long it took. I got e-mails everyday for two weeks wondering where his stuff was. Then a very nasty letter for the charges. And No feedback left. Sorry guys No more Canada shipments from me.

I ordered my steering wheel from Germany,(Nardi) Shipped UPS, only a couple of bucks for Customs, and received it within 10 days.

I used to sell computer equipment on ebay and finally quit selling anything to Canadians because of shipment hassles. I had shipping problems with every one of my Canadian sales (around a half dozen or so). One package took almost two months to get there by the US Postal Service. USPS would not do a trace until at least 90 days went by. I started shipping by UPS and then I started to get hassled by the buyer because of the customs fees. These headaches were not worth it to me.

I usually get stuff in about a week and a half through the postal system coming from the states. Never have had a problem. It also depends on the service level you pay for. If you ship it ground you can expect to wait about a month sometimes. Air is only a couple bucks more. One time I sold a pair of old adidas shoes on ebay to a guy in Germany. It cost about $50CDN to ship them and it took about a month. The shoes sold for only $20US or something. He paid alot more for the shipping then he did for the shoes.

It's not a big deal shipping to Canada and I dont know why some people refuse too...I too ask first if ebayers will ship to Canada even if it says the will ship to USA only....most never bother to check as different box when listing items and will ship if asked.

Brokerage is the big deal up here..UPS soaks you good if you dont know how or have the time to clear items yourself. Postal is cheapest way for Canadian to get stuff shipped up from the USA if its a small item...and yah... it has to be know that regular mail can take 8 weeks to get here. Airmail takes about a week.

Canadians shipping stuff to the USA is quicker cheaper and faster using our postal system. People are amazed at how little the shipping costs are usually. I have a friend who sells ebay all the time now, and most of his feedback is related to how he dosent screw you with shipping and handling charges.

When shipping to Canada try to remeber its the costs of the item we pay tax on... so dont put the total with shipping in the declared value space. Also dont put what you thinks its worth... like $300 on a hundred dollars item. So if your insuring it at double for shipping protection on your end best check with the buyer on his end if he/she's in Canada and make sure you agree what the declared value is.

Our post office limits us to item 100cm in length... so about a steering columns lenght can go postal or we can ship UPS also..or fed ex.. purolator, we have them all here too. Probably the best second choice of shipper to the states from here is UPS in my opinion.

I get a couple of packages a week from the USA, usually UPS, but prefer the postal service. I have yet to ever have something take a very long time, but UPS does usually screw us.

I am not sure what problems the others are talking about, but I can bet, somebody messed something up, or the person didn't accept the package once it arrived. Also, I am not sure why someone would complain to the person who sold them something as to the high expense of the brokorage charges that UPS has, other than the possibility that they declared the value at a higher rate than it sold for, or they included the shipping costs in the declared value, thus costing the person more when the package arrived.

Avoid UPS whenever you can if you're getting stuff from the U.S. they ding you a minimum of $35 for brokerage. That really blows if the part was only 75 .

I sell on ebay and won't ship to Canada anymore. Nothing personal against Canadians...It's just a hassle. A guy won an auction from me. I shipped it post office. I put the declared value down as the same amount he won the auction for and refused the item because I didn't say it was a gift. Anyway, I reshipped at my expense because he threatened me with a negative feedback if I refused to do it. It's just not worth the trouble for me.

The best solution (I know it isn't available to everyone) is to have your UPS stuff shipped to a parcel service on the US side of the border. I live in a border town, and in the town opposite there is a guy who receives Fed Ex and UPS parcels and will call you when they arrive for a fee of $2 US. I solve the shipping across the border problem by having UPS stuff shipped to him, then going to pick it up.

You have to be close to the border for this to make sense for small items, but if you are a big e-bay user or if you have a big order of truck parts it may be worth it.
