keep it or sell it?
Hey guys i was wondering what would be best either converting my truck into an 86 with front clip, moldings, etc or sell my truck and try to look for an 86 pick up? I really like the 86 front end better than my 77.This has stopped me from wanting to fix my truck and its really hard for me to decide because i haven't had any luck finding a cheap 86 pick-up. I really like a truck like this one just how it sits.

Re: keep it or sell it?
The cheapest and easiest way to salve your problem is to change your front clip. Not everyone prefers the round headlights. If I had anything other than the year I do truck or otherwise I would opt for the 90 91 blazer suburban front end

Man, I like the older look the round eyes have and the chrome on the front end.

Re: keep it or sell it?
do the front end swap and sell the 77 stuff to help make up for the money that you put into the new front end.

I did the front end swap, as long as you have the tools and time i can be done
i went from a 74 to 82 to an 87(car accident) its just your taste, if your gona end up customizing your truck it will be up to u

Re: keep it or sell it?
everything lines up and looks stock and people often thought it was an 82, so if you take your time and do it right it will come out clean, i know mine did

Re: keep it or sell it?
Your truck is super cool the way it is, but..... if your determined to change it up just go to the junkyard for a study session. Seeing different trucks in various states of dis-mantle will give you a feel for "how hard it'll be".
Also, look for weekly specials at the junkyards. The savings may add up nicely on an entire front clip. Around here one of them has half price wednesday. Thats when I buy most things.

Re: keep it or sell it?
not to hard, i made a post on here if you look for it
as long as you have all the parts needed and tools maybe a helper or 2 would make it a whole lot easier

Re: keep it or sell it?
I would do the front end swap because like me you live in California, and 86's with the electronic carbs are not that great. The 77's Q-jet is tons more reliable, and is far easier to fix if there is a carb issue.
I got a 74 C20 partially because it is pre-smog, and partially because of the bigger brakes. None the less I wouldn't take a post 80/81 with the carb it has over anything earlier unless it was one hell of a deal. |

Re: keep it or sell it?
Im in SoCal also. If you go to Ecology Salvage or Pick Your Part, they have tons of these trucks just sitting around. These places also have 1/2 price sales about every 6 weeks. You want to swap front ends? Then go practice on a truck in the salvage and get your parts. It really is fairly easy. You need fenders, inner fenders, hood, core support, hood hinges, front bumper, etc.

Re: keep it or sell it?
some basic fab skills would help, you have to notch the cab fro the new hood hinges
