Finding a fan shroud

I have found that the bottom of my fan shroud is broken on my '62, leading my fan to smack into it at times. I'm wanting to get a different shroud to fit, but I'm not sure what vehicle my radiator came out of. It certainly doesn't fit like it should if it were factory, and the shroud is plastic while the 1962 shrouds were metal. I am assuming someone changed it when they added air conditioning many years ago.

I'd like to not have to spend the cash on a new radiator, especially since it took me so much time trying to find molded hoses that fit.

Does anyone know how best to figure out what fan shroud I could use?

If the shroud is still somewhat intact I would take it off and try to repair it. I wish I would of saved mine at least for a reference, as I am having trouble finding a shroud for my 63. Fiberglass and 2 stage epoxy might work.

It looks like you have a 64-66 V8 shroud. They are kinda rare. I would try to repair it.

I used to have 2 of those, but I tossed them when I installed my electric cooling fan....guess I should have saved them for someone

If you take the shroud off, take some more pics and some measurements, I have one a repo I bought along time ago I never used. Hopefully it can just be repaired because it could be unique. btw your shirt is in the same shape as the shroud. lol

That is an original style '63-'66 fan shroud. The radiator looks like a Mopar radiator I have seen used in these trucks before.

LOL, The shirt is not the same shape as the shroud. That's my belly.

I'll take some pics of it tomorrow. It does appear to be the same as the one you have. The holes are in similar places at least.

The one I have has the bottom corners broken off. Someone apparently removed it at one time without removing the bolts. It also has a roughly silver dollar sized hole in it.

I'm amazed at how you would recognize a mopar radiator. It certainly didn't come stock in this truck. Then again, I am amazed at how much you know about these trucks in general.

Why would people put mopar radiators in these trucks? Were they somehow better back then, or maybe they were plentiful and could be made to fit?

Well, that is interesting. I went to O'reilley's first, knowing that my '72 looks like a very similar setup, but the hose they had for the '72 didn't quite work. It kinked when put on, and there wasn't enough rubber before the bend where I would have needed to trim in order to trim it and make it work. I tried several hoses, not being able to drive the truck to the store. One issue was that the inlet to the radiator has a different diameter hole than the thermostat housing, so I either needed a larger diameter hose and clamp it down or find a small one that would be soft enough to expand over the radiator inlet.

Ultimately, I ended up finding a hose that worked from Autozone. Interestingly, the one that worked was for a '72 half ton pickup, but it was bent quite differently from the O'reilly one. Also, unlike the o'reilly one, the autozone one was made with much softer rubber, so I was able to stretch it around the radiator inlet.

So, the short answer is, I got a '72 half ton pickup hose from Autozone.

It sure appears to be the same part. After looking at it, it will probably be worth replacing. Too much damage.
