You could always buy a new tank and have a pump retro fitted into the tank. That is what I did (only for my truck). I used a company called Rock valley auto antique parts. They also make custom SS tanks. I wanted to keep my costs lower so I just sent them a new tank which they retro fitted a pump inside and shipped it back to me.

Here is their website http://www.rockvalleyantiqueautoparts.com/ndex.htm

Good luck
Marc

Re: 48-55 suburban gas tank

rare as hens teeth. no one remans them, to bad too, it makes the ideal way to get the tank out of the cab.
on the 55-59 trucks the tank hangs inside the frame

Re: 48-55 suburban gas tank

Heres the Repro Suburban/panel/under body Truck tank I used from Jim Carter.
http://www.oldchevytrucks.com/cart/p...9&i=10524|||||

You could use a universal sending unit and modify it to accept an in tank style drop in pump or used the lower left corner bung provided on the tank to plumb an external frame mounted pump ( which I would do ).

http://www.brotherstrucks.com/prodin...number=GTS66PN
with a airtex pump

.
.
or frame mount as descibed comming out of the lower left corner bung on the tank.

.
.
These guys will make a modified sender/pump for you

Re: 48-55 suburban gas tank

I didn't even know anyone made that tank as a reproduction. I've still got the stock one out of my truck but it's in pretty rough shape.
