Hood hinges..and hood fit?

So my 16 year old son comes home from work last summer driving a '76 Chevy 1 ton dually he bought off his employer!

Sort of hacked me off at first...but then...he's all boy...and don't play with legos anymore...I just took him back to work to get my other truck he left behind so he could pedal the 454 4 speed truck home. Kept my mouth shut...

Anyhow..it ain't a bad truck...maintained and not battered to destruction like most old farm trucks..and no rust!! However it does have like three million: one rear gears and the old 454 4 barrel will just burn all 4 rear tires!! ...likes gasoline!

Problem is...son needs hood hinges..his are spent...and I fear the hoods going to get the 'Chevy kink'

I can find '79 and newer hood hinges...but I cannot find anything for earlier trucks.

Any ideas where to buy new hood hinges complete for this style Chevrolet??

Re: Hood hinges..and hood fit?

Also install hood braces to prevent hood kinking. And please post some photos..

At least your boy brought home a GM truck, not some 4 cylinder car with a poot pipe and a wing. Be proud of how you raised him...

Re: Hood hinges..and hood fit?

do you have to replace complete hinges or just springs?....what goes wrong with these?

I ask because mine is a 76 and seems fine with no kinks in original hood.

Re: Hood hinges..and hood fit?

The pivot holes, shafts wear out and begin to offer too much resistance or bind. I use white marine lithium grease to keep them healthy.

Yeah, back in the day they actually "lube" things as part of an oil change. Tie-rods,ball-joints, U-joints, door and hood hinges, etc.
Most things are so "maintenence-free" now a days that things get neglected.
