Need a little help w/sport mirrors

I removed my elephant eat mirrors. What is the best way to mount these sport mirrors, is there already a support in there for the elephant ears ears that will support the sport mirrors ????

Re: Need a little help w/sport mirrors

Bolt spacing is different on the dumbo mirrors, the short answer to your question is no, GM didn't install anything inside the door generically so any of the styles of mirrors could be mounted securely, they put in what was needed for the type of mirror on the build sheet and thats all.

In your earlier thread I put a detailed pic of what GM did bracket-wise for the sport mirror trucks, I'd say either

1) try to make something comparable to that
2) hit some junk yards, surf ebay, etc to find some gm brackets
-or-
3) become a supporting member for the $25/yr plan and post a parts wanted ad afterwards looking for a pair of them. (Probably the cheapest and easiest method to protect that $100++ investment in buying those nicey new mirrors)

You can use sheet metal screws to hold down sport mirrors.

Elephant ears I just held in by bolts with washers backing them up.

Re: Need a little help w/sport mirrors

Anyone have a picture of the INSIDE of the door where the mirror mounts. I have the mirrors off just not interested in pulling apart right now if I can just drill into a mount that might already be there. I am preparing this truck for paint and need to fill UNWANTED HOLES !!!!!

Re: Need a little help w/sport mirrors

The factory used a bracket on the inside to support the mirror mount....

Pictures from a previous discussion on this idea

Re: Need a little help w/sport mirrors

Ok I'm looking for the inside brace for the Elephant ear mirrors. Just trying to so how or what I need to do to brace these correctly

I can see the brace through the bottom hole, wondering how big the brace is across the top two bolts where these sport mirrors would be mounted. Is there a plate across there ????
