Brakes lock up.
1969 GMC 350
The more I use the brakes, the more they start to drag than will lock up. Than I have to let the truck sit for awhile and than the brakes will release. The quickest way to release the brakes is to turn a screw on one of the brakes lines at the proportioning valve and a hissing sound happens and the brakes are good to go. Now if I drive the truck on the freeway, because we don't use brakes too much on the freeway, I can drive the truck all day long. If I hit stop and go traffic, I'm screwed. Doesn't seem to have any air in the lines. Brake fluid is full. I'm still using drums on all 4 corners. Any help would be great. Thanks. |

has any brake work been done recently??
are you sure the pedal is comin all the way back??(do brake lights stay on ) might b rubber hoses collapasing causing the problem

If you can relieve pressure at the DISTRIBUTION BLOCK then it seem like the master cylinder isn't letting the fluid return, and not a hose collapsing problem. You might have to shorten the brake rod to the pedal if its not properly releasing. Could also be mechanical drag in the master cylinder or linkage.
Air will hiss brake fluid doesn't hiss. You might try bleeding the brakes. Posted via Mobile Device |

May not be your problem but mine did the same thing, the rears would lock up easily. The parking brake wouldn't work at all. It turns out (as I learned here) my wheel bearing seal was leaking and got on the shoes. I replaced the bearings and seals, new pads and it works perfect now. There wasn't a lot of oil on them but I turns out even a little will do this!

It's my rear brakes that would lock up, too. I'll check for any signs of any wheel bearing leak or fluid somewhere.
