Bouncing Gas Gauge?

My Gas gauge bounces around alot,,it did it with the stock tank and now doing the same thing with the 44 gal suburban tank and sender,,is this normal or is there something missing that keeps it from bouncing around? I can turn the key on and it reads correct sitting still,,but if I rock the truck the gauge bounces with the gas sloshing around? Normal or not? at least I know if it stops bouncing I am totaly out of gas!

Re: Bouncing Gas Gauge?

Check and clean the sending unit wire connections first then maybe replace the sending unit itself.

Re: Bouncing Gas Gauge?

The sending unit and all wiring is brand new as I just installed the suburban tank under the bed,,it did the same thing with the stock behind the seat tank.

I still have the tank behind the seat and a 20 gal tank under the bed. Niether one of them bounce but the rear tank will show empty and still have about 5 gals in it.

Thats possible and I could readjust the float but would have to drop the tank or lift the bed. Really not worth it.

Re: Bouncing Gas Gauge?

Check the speedometer cable going to the transmission. My buddy did an engine swap and accidentally bent the cable a little in the process, his speedometer needle bounces now.
